Water savers: simple and effective solutions

If drinking water weighs more and more in our daily consumption budget, it is also becoming increasingly rare on the planet. All the more reason to save it. A conventional shower delivers on average around twenty liters per minute, but it can be fitted with a water saver to reduce this flow up to 10 liters per minute. These economizers optimize the pressure of the spray jet by dividing the drops of water. The jet is not only less greedy in water but also more invigorating. In addition, water savers for taps and showers not only reduce thefor consumption of water but also that of energy. In fact, using less hot water means consuming less kWh to heat the water.

The water savers can be easily installed between the mixer and the hose or at the base of the shower, depending on the model. In general, models with installation before the hand shower are less efficient because they subject the hose to an overpressure and regulate the water flow less well. The flow regulators to be installed from the shower hose offer a better economy / comfort of use ratio. There are several technical solutions to save water in the bathroom. - Flow limiters : they make it possible to reduce the waste of water generated by an overpressure or a significant flow in the pipes. - Aerators : this is a grid system which is placed at the end of the swan neck and which aerates the jet. This avoids the feeling of lack of pressure and reduces water consumption by 50%. Be careful to choose the right version, male or female, depending on the valve you have. - Mixers : by reducing the time to find the right temperature at the same time as the comfort of use, they reduce water consumption by 10%. - Push button taps : they allow you to temporarily shut off the water, while you are soaping yourself, for example, then rinse immediately at the same flow rate and at the same temperature. - Timed taps are programmed to let the water run for a certain number of seconds and then stop automatically. - Economic showers : mounted on a shower hose, they reduce the flow of the shower by reducing the cross-section of the passage for a saving of almost 50%. Shower stops or aerators are inexpensive small accessories (from € 5). For other solutions, as for classic taps, you will find them at all prices.
