Healthy walls for my child's bedroom

Healthy walls for my child's bedroom

In a global concept of healthy children's rooms, the walls should not be forgotten. Consider choosing ecological wall coverings that will contribute to the well-being of your child. Today we find ecological wall coverings, made from natural, healthy and recyclable materials. Several alternatives are available to you.

Why not paneling?

For wood lovers, the paneling can be a wall covering that is both ecological and decorative. It exists in a vast palette of colors and gives a warm atmosphere to a room. But beware: not all paneling is created equal from an ecological point of view. Prefer bamboo and chestnut. Make sure that they come from (wood from sustainably managed forests) and that they are not treated with chemicals. The prices of the paneling vary according to the type of wood used.

Recycled wallpaper

Today we can find wallpaper containing significant proportions of recycled paper. The use of this type of wallpaper is an excellent ecological alternative, helping to preserve the forest and reducing energy consumption during manufacturing. Unfortunately, it is often difficult to find precise information on the proportion of recycled paper. There is also grain fiber wallpaper, natural paper to paint, cellulose canvas but also paper from managed forests and printed with water-based and solvent-free ink. And of course, who says ecological wallpaper says ecological glue. Today we find non-toxic natural glues of plant origin, without formaldehyde. You can also make your own wallpaper paste with rice or wheat flour (see last paragraph). You will find all kinds of products on www.eco-logis.com. There are also ecological wall coverings made of natural fibers made from jute, sisal or cotton, both very aesthetic and ecological.

Avoid oil or glycerophthalic paints because they contain chemical solvents, water paint, which contains glycol ethers, and "odorless" paints, which do not necessarily mean that they are not toxic. On the other hand, favor lime paints, which are natural and let the walls breathe, NF Environment paints or with European Ecolabel, which guarantee the absence of lead, arsenic and the most harmful glycol ethers. Alkyd emulsion paints are also suitable for a child's bedroom because they do not contain VOCs. Finally, real natural paints, whose binders, solvents and pigments are of vegetable origin, are perfect for a healthy room. Paintings that are respectful of health and the environment can now easily be found in DIY stores and even in hypermarkets.
