Waste inevitably accumulates in a house. Bulky, they pose a real threat to the environment. Household waste is easier to reduce than it seems. Several ecological and clever solutions are available to you to throw the minimum of possible elements.

Think about waste as soon as you buy it

When doing your shopping, think about buying smart and eco-friendly by preferring so-called "family" products and tracking down food (yogurts, cheeses, ready meals ...) that do not have excess cardboard packaging. Also pay attention to the expiration date written on the food packaging. Preferably choose the products placed at the bottom of the shelves (whose deadline is higher) and do not buy too large quantities if you know that you will not eat everything on time or if you plan to go on weekdays -end for example. The individual sachets and packaging are to be banned because they represent an amount of astronomical packaging in relation to the weight of food they contain. Regarding beauty products such as depilatory wax or household products, buy refillable bottles instead of buying the same product in several copies.

Reduce your daily waste

Do not cook too much to avoid your dish ending up in the trash. Measure the quantities of food you need for each recipe and cook the leftovers by revisiting them. If you are sure you cannot eat bread, vegetables or meat, for example, freeze them (making sure beforehand that these foods have not already been frozen). There are several solutions to reduce packaging. You can swap the plastic mineral water bottles with a carafe filled with tap water or a Brita-type filter carafe, replace your children's sodas with a soda machine or prepare your yogurts and ice creams yourself instead to buy them in jars commercially. Finally, consider getting dry products such as rice, pasta or dried fruit in bulk and then store them in jars.

Recycle and transform waste

More and more households are equipped with recycling bins. There are multiple models (sliding to integrate in a cupboard, separate to install in a room ...) depending on the layout of your kitchen. The key word is sorting. Separate the glass, cardboard and plastic well by placing each material in a different container so that it can be recycled. It is also important to educate your children to do the same and to clarify it to your guests who would like to help you tidy up your kitchen after a good meal with friends.

Instead of throwing away some small plastic bottles of your beauty products, you can wash and reuse them by filling them when you go on a trip. To avoid spoiling fruit and vegetable peelings that you do not consume, consider making compost, which will be a powerful fertilizer in the garden and in your planters.
